Kamala Harris at the 2024 DNC
Just a few days ago Vice President Kamala Harris accepted the nomination to be the Democratic nominee in the 2024 Presidential election. In accepting this nomination she gave a speech in which she talked about a lot of topics including some of her campaign promises. In this post I wanted to go over what she has promised if she is elected President and break it down.
About 20 minutes into her speech is when Vice President Harris begins to talk about what she will do if she is elected President. To begin with she talked about helping grow and support the middle class. She plans on doing this by stating she plans on growing the economy and lowering the costs of everyday needs. She also states she will provide capital (typically meaning money a business needs to grow) to businesses. She states that she will protect Social Security and Medicare (insurance that pays for medical bills of people who are over 65 or disabled). Lastly, to round out helping the middle class she says she will give a middle class tax cut (meaning you pay less on your taxes). She then promised to sign into law reproductive freedom. This means that if Congress were to pass a bill allowing women the ability to decide on their reproductive choices without governmental restrictions she would sign it and have it become law. She stated how she will work to bring back a border security bill that her and President Biden worked on last year. This bill would see changes to border security by implementing actions such as an emergency border authority, To finish up the speech she went over some more broader promises that she plans to accomplish while she is in office including: Strengthening the U.S. Armed Forces, to make sure we lead advancements in space and AI, to strengthen our global leadership position, to stand with Ukraine and NATO, and lastly to negotiate a ceasefire and hostage deal between Israel and Palestine. All in all VP Harris made some bold promises if she were to be elected President, but they are just that promises. Will she be able to keep and accomplish these tasks she has talked about? Will she be able to secure the Presidency? We will have to wait to find out!
