So when we last left off both candidates had given some of their stances on issues like the economy and abortion, all the while critiquing each others policies and administrations. With still many issues left to go over, lets break it down.
The next topic covered in this debate was the peaceful transition of power. With Trump being heavily criticized for his actions and statements during the events of the January 6th march on the Capitol this topic was heavily a debated issue. Trump began by stating that he asked them to march peacefully. He then stated Nancy Pelosi was to blame for what happened because he offered national guard assistance. Harris then stated that he was responsible for inciting the riots. In his initial remarks and his rebuttal to Harris's comments Trump criticizes Harris's handling of the issues on the border. Trump was then asked on him changing his position from having not lost the 2020 election to stating that he had barely lost it. Trump stated that he was saying he lost sarcastically, and stating that the election was fraudulent. Harris responded reinforcing that he had lost, and criticizing him for not being able to accept that. The next two topics were focused on the wars currently happening between Israel and Hamas, and Ukraine and Russia. On Israel Harris stated that she believed that Israel had a right to defend itself, and wanted to work on a 2 state solution to the conflict. Trump responded by stating that Harris hated Israel and wouldn't meet with Israel's leader. He also criticized how the Biden administration is handling the tensions with Iran. On the issue of the Ukraine war Trump stated that he wanted to help resolve the conflict, and he wanted to force Europe to commit more funds to NATO to equalize out what the U.S. is putting into it. Harris stated that she would continue to support Ukraine, but also stated that had Trump been President he wouldn't have supported Ukraine at all. The next topic about the candidates plans for the country was over healthcare. Trump responded stating that he wanted to get rid of The Affordable Care Act and replace it with something better, though he didn't currently have a plan. Harris stated that she wanted to maintain private healthcare as an option but to also maintain and grow The Affordable Care Act. The last topic discussed was climate change. Harris started by stating that Trump had called climate change a a hoax. She then stated the accomplishments that the Biden administration had done with working toward clean energy. Trump responded by stating that their actions were losing manufacturing jobs and that he wanted to impose tariffs to try and secure some of those manufacturing jobs back.
