Vice Presidential Debate Part 2
Welcome back folks for part 2 of the VP debate. In this post We're going to go over more of what was discussed in the debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance. The debate continued on without a pause here so we will too, lets get right into it and break it down!
The next topic of debate for the night was the economy. The question revolved around the tax plan Harris had unveiled (which we will discuss in another blog post!) and how Walz and Harris planned to accomplish this without increasing the nations deficit. Walz began his statement by stating what they planned to accomplish for the middle class and the economy like 3 million new houses and tax credits. he also talked about how he planned to accomplish this by making the wealthy pay their fair share. Vance responded with a critique of Harris stating that she's had the opportunity to enact these types of policies already, and that she has but that haven't helped. He then lauded how Trump handled the economy. The two then went back and forth over Trump's handling of the economy, with Walz stating things like how Trump's failure during covid hurt our economy, and Vance again promoting Trump's accomplishment like rising take home pay and lowering inflation. The next debate topic was over some of the contradictions and gaffs the two VP candidates have made before. Walz was asked about him reporting that he was in China during the Tiananmen square protest during 1989. Walz responded by stating how he had been to China many times and pour his heart and soul into his hometown community, and finishing off his initial statement by saying he misspoke, that he was just in the area during that time. Vance was asked about his negative remarks and public opinions on Trump going back and forth. He responded by stating that while he has not always agreed with Trump he was wrong about him. He praised some of the accomplishments Trump managed to do and stated that felt as though the first Trump administration was not very effective. The next topic of debate was reproductive rights. Walz was up first stating example of how the overturning of Roe. v. Wade has had a very powerful impact on many women around the country. He stated how Project 2025 which is connected to the Trump campaign would make it a lot harder to protect these rights. Vance made a rather surprising statement about this issue. He stated that the issue was very dear to him and how he wanted the Republican party to earn the publics trust back on this issue, and that he and Trump want to do just that. They want to make it easier for mom economically, and how the wanted to give women more options through public policy. He did state however that he wanted this issue to be decided by the voters in their states.
