2024 Presidential Election.
Well ladies and Gentlemen it has been a few days since the 2024 Presidential election and I wanted to use this post to talk about the results, and what happened that lead to Donald Trump securing victory again, and becoming the 47th President of the United States. Lets break it down!
Now before I begin I wanted to talk about something first, and that is being neutral. In my posts on this blog I have tried to be as politically neutral as possible. In doing this blog I simply wanted to take complicated, long winded, or confusing political events and stories to make them easier for people to digest. I am setting out here with this post to do the same thing. I try to not let my own political beliefs come through on my posts and with this one being a very hot topic right now I wish to try and do the same. So with that said lets get started shall we? With the results of this election I have heard many people be confused as to how Trump could have lost in 2020 but comeback to win this year. Well first lets look at some differences with the results. Linked here I have a map from the NY Times with the 2024 election results, and linked here I have one from CNN with the 2020 results. So what changed? Well first states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Michigan, and Wisconsin all swapped from being won by Democrats in 2020 to being won by Republicans in 2024. Now this isn't surprising for many of these states they typically are swing states that are heavily contested by Presidential candidates. One exclusion to this though being Georgia which typically is staunchly Republican, but surprised everyone by going blue in 2020 and being heavily contested again in 2024. Nevada however was securely blue in 2020 while switching to red this year but heavily contested. Also for reference when I say red or blue I'm referring to Republican and Democrat respectively. It is also important to note that the popular vote was much more heavily contested this year with a difference of a little over 2.5 million in favor of Trump, whereas in 2020 Biden won the popular vote by over 7 million. So what could have caused this? Well some have chalked up Biden's win in 2020 being sue to COVID and how Trump handled the pandemic, while many have stated that Trump's win this year has come from the economy still hurting. It is important to note though that even though we can sit here and speculate reasons all day, each person had their own reason to vote for who they voted for. I also just want to end the post here with a small little rant. So I used to be a history major and my one of my favorite questions to trip people up with was how many Presidents have we had, now how many people have been President. The numbers haven't aligned in a long while because Grover Cleveland won, lost, then won again and when you don't have consecutive Presidencies you can't have the same number. Well now that Trump has done the same thing the numbers are going to be even further off and this has always just irked me in the slightest.
