Project 2025, what is it?

If you have been listening to the news at all recently or any of the speeches given by Democratic leaders you will have heard mention of the phrase Project 2025. Just this week VP candidate Tim Walz was giving a speech in Erie Pennsylvania where he mentioned Project 2025 condemning it and its plans. After hearing about it like a sort of boogie man there still hasn't been much talk on what Project 2025 actually is. In this weeks post I am going to break down project 2025 and what it actually aims to do for our country.

So what is this Project 2025? In a brief summary it is a policy plan devised by The Heritage Foundation in what they hope will happen to different aspects of the government if former President Trump is elected to office this year. It is also important to note that former President Trump has distanced himself from this project stating that he doesn't know anything about it or who is behind it. It is also important to note that there are former advisors and staff from the Trump presidency working on the project. The first major task the project is hoping for is a streamlining of the federal government. The way the project hopes to achieve this is to place federal agencies under presidential control so that the President could in theory directly implement their policies in these agencies. The project also hopes to remove job protections for certain government employees. This means that the President could release this personnel and replace them with whoever they wanted. On the issue of immigration the project hopes to finish the plans for the wall Trump proposed during his presidency. The project also advocates for the Department of Homeland Security to be broken apart and combined with other agencies. The project advocates for the of the drug mifepristone, a drug used for abortions, from the market. The project seeks to establish a pro-life task force in the HHS. The project seeks to reduce federal involvement in education, promoting things like school choice, and rolling back DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) initiatives. All in all Project 2025 aims to have a much more conservative federal government and seeks to do that through many conservative policy decisions. The question remains that will they be able to accomplish this policy agenda that they've set out. In order to do so they have many challenges ahead of them from Trump securing the election, to him agreeing to go along with the policy plans, to the policy plans being enacted and put into effect.

  1. Hey Camren! Project 2025 has been a hot-button issue in this election. Having just finished watching the first presidential debate last night, I was 100% sure Harris would mention it (which she did!). Trump's decision to distance himself from the movement is smart since the majority of the U.S. identifies as pro-choice. However, his connection to those involved in Project 2025 has left another stain on his already controversial reputation. It will be interesting to see if and how Project 2025 will be mentioned in the debate between Tim Walz and J.D. Vance as accusations of extremism continue to be thrown around on both sides.

  2. How's it going Camren! I had not heard of Project 2025 until this blog post, and I am very surprised by this! This project seems to create issues via both sides as it seems Trump is distancing himself from this group, yet Harris is using this as a way to tie Trump into her arguments. It will be good insight to find out what will occur from this project for both sides of this election!

  3. Hey Carmen! Thank you breaking down the policies of Project 2025. I find it heartbreaking that this policy even exist for it setback a long of people and it lacks empathy knowing the policy doesn’t harm those of the rich.

  4. Hi Camren! I find your blog to be a very interesting and helpful resource during a time where a lot of terminology is thrown around when people may not exactly know what it means. I have heard Project 2025 mentioned in almost every political discussion, but I haven't necessarily taken the time to read about it specifically. I find it intriguing that Trump has removed his name from the project, but those working with him are involved in it.

  5. This was a great read! I think that you did an amazing job at giving a brief summary over this project. Also to further your point, you did an amazing job at giving the context to this within the political landscape today. I do not wish to reply with an opinion over the matter, but rather to give credit where it is due within your post. Also, you make sure to mention that Trump has distanced himself from this project and which no one other than him truly knows if this is true which is important to factor into decision making in voting this upcoming year.
