The Vice Presidential Debate Part 1

This week was the first and only debate between VP candidates Tim Walz and JD Vance. Unlike the Presidential debate between Harris and Trump, this one was much more tame and what we have come to expect from debates in the past. Also unlike the Presidential debate there was much more talk of policy, plans, and information debated this time. It is because of this I have decided to break this debate down into 3 parts so that we can get through all of the information more easily and accurately. So let's talk about what the VP candidates had to say and break it down!

The debate began with tough hitting questions out of the gate. Governor Walz was first to respond to the question of if it was down to him in the situation room would he support a preemptive strike on Iran by Israel. This question was asked because Iran had just launched an attack on Israel and Iran has greatly improved its abilities to make a nuclear weapon. Walz kind of avoided the question stating that it was important to have steady leadership there and at home to manage the situation. Walz then criticized Trump's ability to appropriately handle situation like this, he then closed his remarks by stating that it was important to protect our forced and allied forces. Vance responded giving some background information on himself then stating how the Trump administration kept order around the globe while the Biden administration has only hampered the situation with Iran stating that the country has received over $100 billion in unfrozen assets. He then answered the question stating that it was important for Israel to defend itself and for us to assist them. The two then debated over who is responsible for Iran being able to advance their nuclear weapons program, with Walz stating it was Trump's fault for pulling out of a deal to pause parts of the program while Vance blamed Harris for her and the Biden admin. not doing more to control it. The two were then asked about the issue of climate change. Vance was up first stating how him and Trump want a cleaner safer environment, and want to achieve this by bringing back energy production and manufacturing back to the U.S. so that the economy can be cleaner. Walz responded by stating how the Biden Harris administration has invested heavily into program to try and combat climate change, he then stated that they wanted to move forward with programs to continue to combat it. The next topic was immigration and the U.S. Mexico border crisis. Vance was up first and was asked about his administration planning to achieve the largest mass deportation plan in American history. Vance started by criticizing Harris and her handling of the border. He began explaining the plan by talking about how they wanted to reimplement policies enacted by the Trump administration that we removed by the Biden Harris administration. He stated how they wanted to start with the deportation of criminal migrants and how they wanted to make it harder for migrants to undercut the wages of American workers. Vance also made comments stating how children were being used as drug mules and how Harris was allowing fentanyl (a highly addictive drug) into the country. Walz responded by making a rather surprising critique of the Trump administration in his rebuttal. In this critique he talked about how a rather comprehensive bill to address the border issue was in the works, one that was started by a conservative senator, that was supported by many members of Congress and different agencies, but Trump shot it down. He then promised that if the bill got passed while Harris was President she would sign it. Vance responded again by criticizing Harris and her handling of the border, while Walz responded again by stating how they would sign the bill to fix the issue and how Trump didn't want to fix the issue but to use it as a talking point. For their last talking points on this topic Vance talked about how the wanted to empower law enforcement to do their jobs, while Walz brought the bill up again and talked about wanting to get the job done.

Also for this debate as I said there was a lot of information and topics covered. While I am breaking it down here I know that this can still be a lot of information so below I have also linked a video by the BBC which highlights key moments of this debate in one short video.
