Trump's Cabinet Picks are Taking Shape

In my final blog post for this class I wanted to look at something that has been dominating the news cycle recently and that has been Trumps cabinet picks for his next term as President. In this post I just want to go over some of these picks and just give some information on them. So let's break it down!

So first let's begin with some of the picks that to me seem reasonable, and then we'll get into the more interesting ones. First up Marco Rubio for Secretary of State. Marco Rubio is a Senator from Florida who ran against Trump  way back in 2016. He has held his position in the Senate since 2011, and seems like a fairly safe choice for the position. There's the Secretary of Veterans Affairs nominee Dough Collins. Collins served in the House of Representatives from 2013-2021, has had service in the military, has served on the Veterans Affairs committee while he was in the Georgia legislature, and is a staunch Republican. he is not a surprising choice from Trump to make. There is also his pick for the Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Noem is currently the governor of South Dakota and has supported Trump in the past, making her another reasonable choice for him to make. Again though these are some of the choices that could be seen a reasonable for any President to make, but these picks are not the ones that have been dominating the news cycle, so lets talk about some of those. For Medicare and Medicaid administrator Trump had chosen Dr. Mehmet Oz a physician and former tv personality. Oz has had close ties with Trump in the past though so this could be why he was chosen. One choice that has been really surprising to people is Linda McMahon for the Secretary of Education. Now McMahon has been on a school board before and has tried to seek office a couple of times with no success, but no one from what I have seen would have predicted her to be selected for the position. This is mostly because people associate her with her husband Vince McMahon as the CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment. Another surprising pick to people has been Elon Musk for the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk who is the CEO of companies like Tesla and SpaceX has had close ties with Trump, but has never sought or won office before and the Department he will be heading was just announced by Trump to be created.

  1. Trump's cabinet nominations and selections have absolutely been quite the show to say the least. Out of all the nominations, I do agree that Marco Rubio seems to be the only slightly normal selection pick. I will say that if these nominations are only a taste of what we can expect from trump's administration, I can only imagine what the next four years will look like.
